For the sessions on Saturday and Sunday, these give a more specific approach for Writing and Storytelling, with a hands on workshop setting for a small separate ticketed session. These Comics Experience Workshops are two hours in length, and feature Andy Schmidt and other working professions interacting and working side by side with the attendees. Descriptions of each can be found below. The price for the Saturday and the Sunday sessions are $25 each, or you can purchase all 3 sessions for the price of $40.

*Saturday 11am-1pm COMIC EXPERIENCE Session 1: Writing Comics (separate admission ticket) Join Andy Schmidt, professional comics instructor and former Marvel and IDW Publishing editor, for this condensed, intensive workshop of Andy’s Comics Experience course: Introduction to Comic Book Writing. In this seminar, Andy will work you through how to block out a story and grow it from the seed of an idea you have into a fully functioning, dramatic and exciting comic book script! If you’ve got a story to tell, come tell it with Andy! This session takes place in Joshua Tree Room, right outside the main convention hall.
*Sunday 11am-1pm COMIC EXPERIENCE Session 2 Comic Book Art and Graphic Storytelling (separate admission ticket) Drawing Comics isn’t the same thing as drawing. You can draw well, you can paint well, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be great at comics. But the good news is that drawing comics well isn’t a genetic trait. It’s something you learn how to do. There are rules–like the fundamentals of reading–there are assumptions that we all know, but that no one talks about or tells artists about. The result is often several years of bad comcis art from great artists–but you can avoid most, if not all of that, but simply getting the full download from someone who knows it and is happy to share it with you! That’s where this session and Comics Experience’s Andy Schmidt come in. In this workshop, Andy will break down how to tell a story very well quickly and concisely. We’ll give you the tools to avoid the common pitfalls BEFORE you step into them. Want to get a jump drawing great comics? Then come join us for the afternoon! This session takes place in Joshua Tree Room, right outside the main convention hall.
